Kayaker falls into river, police and public find him and two buddies safe at park

NEWS/ POLICE — Three male kayakers were found safe thanks to some fast action by police and public after their overturned kayak was found in the river at Riverside Park late Friday night.

RCMPThe Kamloops RCMP bike patrol was taking a turn through the park at 10 p.m. when some people told them they’d found a kayak and personal effects floating in the river.

Police discovered the three kayakers had been kayaking in the river parallel to downtown, became highly intoxicated and became separated from each other. One of them fell out of his kayak.

With the help of Kamloops Fire and Rescue, RCMP Police Dog Service and RCMP general duty members, the three missing men were found safe.

“Police would like to remind the public during this busy summer that consuming alcohol and boating can be very dangerous,” said Sgt. Joe Morrissey with the Kamloops RCMP.
