Motorcyclist hits barrier, taken to hospital

NEWS/ POLICE — A motorcyclist was taken to Royal Inland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries Thursday night after he lost control and hit a concrete barrier on Highway 1 at the Columbia Street overpass.

RCMPStaff Sgt. Lane Jumaga said RCMP and Kamloops Fire & Rescue arrived at the scene just after 9:30. He said the 25-year-old motorcyclist was westbound “at a high rate of speed” when he hit the barrier and was thrown from the bike, which came to rest west of the Columbia Street West on-ramp.

The on-ramp to Highway 1 from Columbia Street West was closed for more than an hour while police investigated the accident scene. Jumaga said speed and alcohol are contributing factors to the crash and the drive faces several charges.
