City’s 1986 Volunteer of the Year Peggy Gilmour passes away

Kamloops’ 1986 Volunteer of the Year died at her home Sunday. Peggy Gilmour was 86.

Born in Cache Creek and raised on the Bonaparte Ranch, she lived in several cities but returned to Kamloops with her husband Allan in 1982, where she became involved with many community organizations including the Western Canada Theatre, YWCA, Chris Rose Therapy Centre for Autism, Special Olympics, Canadian Cancer Society and many others.

In addition to the Volunteer of the Year award, she received the City’s Centennial Medal and the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal.

Allan predeceased her in 2008.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 8 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s Cathedral, 360 Nicola St. Peggy Gilmour’s obituary is published here.
