Two receive community awards from accountants group
NEWS/ BUSINESS — Two behind-the-scenes business women have been recognized provincially with community service awards.
Maureen McCurdy, a partner in Daley & Company LLP and Sandra Blair, senior tax manager at Daley & Company LLP, were honoured Wednesday night by the Chartered Professional Accountants of B.C. with the organization’s Community Service Award.
“We are proud of our team,” said firm partner Norm Daley. “There’s no way Maureen or Sandra would have ever put their names forward for this award, nor would they have thought they would have deserved the honour.
“We had to be a little sneaky and nominate them. They’re both humble people and were shocked with the awards but are absolutely honoured that their contributions have been recognized.”
Blair served as co-chair of the 2012 and 2013 Ribfest event where she managed as many as 16 sub-committees. McCurdy has a long history of service to the community including chairing various committees for many major sporting events such as the Western Canada Summer Games and Tim Hortons Brier.
“The philanthropic work of volunteers like Sandra and Maureen helps enrich communities and the lives of others. Both Sandra and Maureen are truly deserving of this award,” said Richard Rees of the Chartered Professional Accountants of B.C. and ICABC.
The Community Service Award recognizes chartered accountants for their outstanding contributions to the community and to volunteer organizations. Recipients are nominated by other members of the profession or by community organizations.
The awards were presented Wednesday night at the Institute’s annual member recognition dinner.
