RCMP on lookout for bad driving during ‘long’ weekend
NEWS/ POLICE — Even though it’s not officially a long weekend, Kamloops RCMP will be paying extra attention to drivers starting Friday, including setting up roadblocks.
Cpl. Cheryl Bush issued this advisory today:
“Kamloops RCMP will be making the roadways a bit safer as we head into the start of summer vacation time. Although this weekend isn’t an actual long weekend, with the holiday being on Tuesday, we will see higher traffic volume on the roadways.
“This weekend kicks off the start of people’s vacations and travel plans. The warmer weather leads to more outdoor celebrations and gatherings, which often involve the consumption of alcohol.
“Police will have increased enforcement throughout the weekend, continuing until the end of the Canada Day celebrations on July 1, to take impaired drivers off the roads.
“In addition to numerous roadblocks throughout the weekend, on Friday, June 27, Kamloops RCMP traffic members will be working jointly with Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement officers focusing on illegally equipped vehicles.
“Police are asking drivers to allow extra time to reach their destinations during the summer travel months as they may encounter slower moving traffic due to travel trailers, high volume, or construction zones.
“We ask that drivers exercise patience, be alert in your driving, and always use a designated driver if you are partaking in festivities.”
