NEWS/ PINTANTAN — The owner of the Pinantan General Store is still “hopeful” work can begin on rebuilding by the end of August.

Cory George said plans are out for tender and he’s working with the TNRD on preparations for construction. The store burned to the ground on the Easter weekend, leaving nothing but rubble.

If work gets underway this summer, the store should be ready to open by the end of the year.

In late evening March 16, a tenant in a suite of the store noticed smoke coming from the building’s basement. Though a fire department is now being discussed in the community, all residents could do at the time was watch the store burn down as police and Hydro crews controlled the scene.

No one was injured in the fire.
