NEWS/ BUSINESS — The Central Interior chapter of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association has a new board of directors for 2014-15.

Matt McCurrach of Homex Development Corp. is the new president, with Jason Gagnon of Greenvale Construction the first vice president and Curtis Schosser of Granite Homes Inc. the second vice president.

Mario Piroddi, BDO Canada LLP, remains as treasurer; Marlene Anderson, Tri-AMM Developments Corp. is secretary; and Brian Hayashi, NexBuild Construction Corp., is past president.

Directors are Al Norgaard, Norgaard Ready Mix Ltd.; Bev Wassen-Hunter, BMO Bank of Montreal; Ken Dueck, Dueck Construction; Ryan Kurzac, Kamloops Home Hardware Building Centre and Tom Caine, Fulcrum Development.

Sam Dabner, Fulton and Conpany LLP, is the past secretary and Bert Gatien of Snow-Terra Investments is a past director.

“I’m looking forward to a successful year supported by a strong board bringing diverse points of view that will continue to move our organization forward,” said McCurrach.

“Building technology is rapidly evolving and today’s homes are more livable and energy efficient than ever before. The number one concern to our industry is housing affordability.

“There are relentless upward cost pressures but the area of greatest concern is the regulatory burden imposed by all levels of government through increases in taxes and fees.”

Guest speaker at the meeting was CHBC B.C. president Robert Capar, who spoke about the progress and changes of CHBA at local, provincial and national levels.
