SPORTS — It was no walk in the park last weekend but Kamloops cyclist Devon Moonie made the top 10 in the Banff National Park Bike Fest, finishing just a minute and 12 seconds back of the first-place rider in the category 3 general clasification, and third in the Tunnel Mountain Road Race.

The general classification, in which he placed 10th, is the combined time over all five events. It’s a development category from which riders move into elite national levels.

The Banff Park Bike Fest features racers from across Western Canada and the U.S. Moonie, at 20, is considered one of the best racers his age in B.C. Finishing 1:12 back in category 3 is all the more remarkable coming after more than four and a half hours of racing.

Moonie is a member of the Interior Grasslands Cycling Club, which has more than 70 members of all skills and fitness levels.
