BB-gun wielding suspect in police custody

NEWS/ POLICE — A man reported to be yelling and swearing with a gun in his hand brought RCMP to a backyard on Fernie Place just after 2:30 p.m. today (Monday.

RCMPOfficers arrived on the scene and took four people into custody without incident. Cpl. Cheryl Bush said police are trying to determine what the intent and motive of the man was and whether the other parties were involved.

“A weapon was recovered by officers at the scene that has been determined to be a BB gun, which is easily mistaken as a 9 mm handgun, due to its close resemblance,” said Bush.

Traffic into the area was restricted while police responded but has since returned to normal.

In other police news, RCMP were called to a report of a fight at a home on Elm Street shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday.

They found that during an altercation between two males, one received numerous stab wounds and the other had injuries apparently from a physical struggle.

Two other people who were in the residence at the time were not injured and police say it appears that all parties knew each other. Police continue to investigate and the male who suffered the stab wounds remains in the hospital.
