CarShare co-op picking up some speed

car share-parkingCOMMUNITY — A group of volunteers working towards a carshare start-up in Kamloops is now a registered non-profit society and ready to spread the word in the community.

The Interior CarShare Co-operative will hold an information session and membership drive June 18, said project co-ordinator Krystal Kehoe.

The information session will outline what the steering committee has been working on during the past year and show the carshare will operate.

“We are now at a point where we need members to sign up in order to move forward.”

Kathy Sinclair, a founding member, said getting a core group of members is essential. “If carsharing in Kamloops is going to happen, it’s going to need an initial group of members who are willing to put their money down in order to get cars on the road,” she said.

“I’d rather not own a car. That said, there are times when I could definitely use a vehicle for a grocery run, outing or work errand.”

Those interested in attending the information session are asked to RSVP at http://www.interiorcarshare.ca.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18 at Maurya Fine Indian Cuisine banquet room, 165 Victoria St.
