KCBIA’s new CAP team ambassadors named
NEWS — This year’s downtown student patrol was officially introduced Wednesday as the Kamloops Central BIA launched its annual summer ambassador program.
The patrol, unofficially known as CAP, begins its ninth summer providing information services to tourists and shoppers. KCBIA manager Gay Pooler said the team also now focuses on crime prevention and safety issues.
She said the goals for this year are to focus on hospitality both for tourists and residents and to be an extra set of eyes and ears for downtown authorities.
The patrol has been on the job for two weeks and has already handled 14 street referrals or assistance, contacted police six times, found a half dozen needles, and helped more than 150 tourists.
Two calls to police resulted in arrests.
They’ve also biked 180 km and walked 550 km.
The members are team leader Erin Miller, tourism ambassadors Laura Dumbrell, Cameron Staff and Madyson Cavaliere, and safety patrol members Dana Clarkson, Alex Martin, Aaron McCoy and Hafiz Karim.
