Wells Gray visitor info centre gets a reno

NEWS/REGION — A $384,000 project to bring new life to the Wells Gray Visitor Information Centre is now complete, just in time to provide improved service for 150,000 anticipated visitors this summer.

Wells Gray signThe newly renovated information centre has received a major facelift. A fresh coat of paint, new counters, desks and brochure racks have been installed, welcoming visitors to not only Wells Gray Provincial Park, but the region.

New interactive displays have been completed, depicting the evolution of the local flora and fauna and highlighting the significance of the traditional lands to the Simpcw First Nation and Canim Lake Indian Band.

Kamloops-North Thompson MLA Terry Lake said the information centre is a “vital resource” and the renovations will better serve visitors for years to come.

Among other improvements are a new HVAC system, new roof and siding, upgraded electrical, doors and windows, and increased accessibility and signage.

The information centre is staffed by Information Wells Gray, a not-for-profit formed from local business and tourism operators about 10 years ago.
