B.C. Lions train here for fifth straight year
SPORTS — The B.C. Lions return to the Tournament Capital for their 5th consecutive year.
Their rookie camp started Thursday, with the full camp beginning Sunday, June 1 and running until June 19, from 9 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Two night practices will be open to the public, on Friday, June 6 and Sunday, June 15, starting at 7 p.m.
The club has trained in Kamloops since 2010, using the Tournament Capital Centre’s Hillside Stadium as well as facilities provided by Thompson Rivers University.
“Kamloops offers a fantastic opportunity for our training camp and we’re looking forward to another successful start to our season in Kamloops,” commented Neil McEvoy with the Lions.
The City of Kamloops and the Lions will again hold a Fanfest for the public. Fanfest will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Hillside Stadium on Sunday, June 8. The Lions will host a practice as well as a clinic, and offer interviews and autograph opportunities. For the kids there will be face painting, inflatable games, prizes and more.
The Lions have five Grey Cup titles to their credit: 1964, 1985, 1994, 2000, 2006 and 2011.
Question:
The rumour rampant in Kamloopsian circles is that The Lions, in appreciation of perks provided them for bringing their camp to the city – year after year, give $10,000 in complimentary tickets to the city…
Question….what happens to these tickets?
I hold my ear pretty close to the ground and have not heard news of “free ticket giveaways to a worthy cause” or just to “Kamloopsians by rite of domicile”.
(1) – do these free tickets exist? (2) where have they gone in former years (3) how can we avail ourselves to a set “this year” – “now”?
I’m just guessing, but, my bet is that I am not the only Kamloopsian with this question in the forefront…ss

Jeff Putnam at the City says the B.C. Lions do provide the equivalent of about $10,000 in tickets, an idea that originated with the Lions. About half go to charities and organizations for fundraising and the other half are sold to the public. Jeff says they aren’t advertised because there aren’t that many of them and the logistics would be too involved so it’s by word of mouth.
