Evacuation alert issued for area north of Second Canyon Cr. and Clearwater Valley Rd.
NEWS — An evacuation alert has been issued for the Upper Clearwater area north of the Second Canyon Creek and Clearwater Valley Road.
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District issued the alert late Tuesday night due to risk of flooding at Second Creek Canyon at Clearwater Valley Road north of the District of Clearwater. The flooding poses an imminent threat to road access, says the TNRD, and there is a potential danger to life and health.
Residents receiving the alert have been warned to prepare to evacuate their homes and property should it become necessary. “Residents will be given as much advance warning as possible prior to the evacuation; however you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.”
Should an evacuation me needed, residents are being directed to exit the area by travelling south on Clearwater Valley Road. A reception centre will be established at the North Thompson Sportsplex, 428 Murtle Cres.
Residents who are evacuated must register with Emergency Social Services at the designated reception centre. Registration provides emergency personnel and family members with a list of evacuees and will provide evacuated residents with food, shelter and other personal necessities.
The TNRD advises the following measures during the alert:
1. Locate all family members and be prepared to evacuate your residence and property to an identified safe reception area.
2. Gather essential items such as medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (insurance), photographs and immediate care needs for dependants.
3. Prepare to move any disabled persons and children.
4. Collect pets and pet needs.
5. If possible, move livestock to a safe area.
Anyone required more information or transportation assistance should call the TNRD Emergency Operations Centre at 1-866-377-7188.
