NEWS — The McLure and Little Fort ferries remain shut down and minor flooding is being reported in some low-lying areas as the North Thompson River continues to run high.

The Transportation Ministry updated the status of the ferries at 4 a.m. today.

The City of Kamloops has issued an advisory to residents to keep a close watch on river levels and take precautionary measures as necessary. Sand and sandbags are available at Fire halls 1 through 6.

City staff are working with the B.C. River Forecast Centre to monitor levels on a daily basis.

Kamloops RCMP are re-itterating their advice to boaters and swimmers to stay clear of the river system until the high-water season has passed. They’re particularly concerned about snags and debris coming down the North Thompson, and high water at the CN Rail Bridge.

“Extreme caution should be exercised around this train bridge due to the high-water level.”

Water level makes CN Bridge a dangerous place to be on the river.
