TRU town hall to talk about budget

NEWS/ TRU — Members of the Thompson Rivers University community will have a chance to talk about the institution’s budget at a town hall session Thursday, 1 p.m. in the Irving K. Barber Centre.

TRU budgetTRU is implementing a new budget methology designed around its strategic priorities.

“Our strategic priorities maximize the ability of TRU to make decisions on how best to serve our education, research and service missions,” says a press statement.

“The new budget model we’re proposing will support that vision with its potential to improve the allocation of resources.”

It says the economic landscape includes cuts to block grants from the province resulting in decreased revenue, declining on-campus enrolments. “The current budget model, in place since 2007, while promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, lacks consultation and the flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances and severely limits TRU’s ability to invest in its strategic priorities.”
