Open houses to provide a look at casino plans

NEWS — The public has a chance today and tomorrow to get a glimpse of what the new casino will look like in the former Rona building as Gateway Casinos & Entertainment hosts a series of open houses.

RonaGateway wants to move its casino from the Hotel 540 and has submitted a rezoning application for the Rona building, which it has purchased, at 1555 Versatile Drive.

The open houses are scheduled for today, May 12 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday, May 13 from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. at the proposed location.

“With more exciting gaming options, multiple food and beverage outlets including our signature Match Eatery & Public House and an outdoor amphitheatre, the proposed full-service casino will allow us to become a true entertainment destination for adults throughout the Kamloops and North Okanagan area,” said Gateway CEO Tony Santo.

Santo said he was also excited to hear about Hotel 540’s proposal for a performing arts centre in place of the casino.

“I’m confident it would add new vitality to the area.”
