WolfPack bests Mariners in Lethbridge

SPORTS — The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack baseball team defeated the Canadian College Baseball Conference Championship Tournament fourth place seed.

Wolfpack logoThe WolfPack beat the Vancouver Island Baseball Institute Mariners at Spitz Stadium in Lethbridge 7-6. The Mariners finished fourth in the CCBC regular season while Thompson Rivers were the first place team.

In this game, VIBI got 6 runs on 10 hits and three errors. The WolfPack notched seven runs on 11 hits and committed three errors. The WolfPack jumped out to a 6-3 lead after the first inning.

The Mariners scored their first in the third inning and again in the fourth. TRU scored again in the fourth, creating a gap VIBI was unable to contend with. The Mariner’s scored three runs in the fifth inning and another in the sixth, coming up just short.

Winning pitcher, Alex Reid of Kamloops tossed a complete game for the win. He struck out six, gave up 10 hits and surrendered a walk.

Offensively, TRU was led by Evan Douglas (designated hitter, White Rock) who was two for four with a solo home run. Douglas also scored 2 runs.

The middle of the lineup was productive for the ‘Pack.

Luc Simpson (right field, Aldergrove) was two for three with a double and a RBI. Simpson also got walked.

Sean Ash (Sherwood Park) was two for two with a RBI.

Cam Strachan (Trail) was two for two with a RBI and also got walked.

The WolfPack have only one game today (Saturday). It’s at 6 p.m. MDT against the home team, Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs.
