Suspect charged after string of incidents

RCMPNEWS/ POLICE — A suspect has been charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 (a car), intentionally causing damage to the car by arson, break-and-enter to a home with theft of a firearm, and illegal possession of that firearm, stemming from an incident at Adams Lake on Thursday.

RCMP arrested 20-year-old Justin Brock Normand of Edmonton after someone stole a car in Edmonton and drove through Clearwater and Barriere before stopping at Adams Lake where the break-and-enter and arson to the car occurred.

Local residents and log truck drivers attempted to contain the suspect until police arrived. Chase and Barriere detachments, as well as Central Interior Traffic Services, Police Dog Service, the Emergency Response Team and the Air 4 helicopter from Kamloops responded and located Normand in a small boat on Adams Lake.

Normand was arrested a few hours later as he came ashore and he was scheduled to make a first appearance in Kamloops Provincial Court today.
