Cantabile Singers team up with Nove Voce
ARTS/ ENTERTAINMENT — Cantabile Singers of Kamloops have partnered with the Nove Voce Women’s Choir from Prince George to bring a spring evening of song to Kamloops tomorrow, Friday, May 2.
The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 1136-6th Avenue.
Prince George’s Nove Voce formed in 2005 when a group of director Robin Norman’s accomplished voice students joined together to provide Christmas music in support of the Salvation Army’s Christmas Kettle Campaign.
They enjoyed singing together so much that they continued to work together, going on to represent Prince George in provincial, national and international music festivals.
The Cantabile Singers of Kamloops were formed in 1993. A chamber choir consisting of 14 voices under the musical leadership of Chris Krushel, they perform a wide range of music, spanning several centuries.
In 2013 they performed at the Mayor’s Gala for the Arts as well as hosting several of their own concerts, including their annual Remembrance Day concert and “Divas and Divos,” a celebration of Opera and Musical Theatre.
Opening with William Dawson’s timeless spiritual, “Ain-a That Good News,” Cantabile and Nova Voce will perform a diverse selection of choral pieces.
From Beethoven’s Scottish folk song “Oh Swiftly Glides the Bonny Boat” to Billy Joel’s “And So It Goes” the concert will include several centuries worth of choral classics.
The women from both choirs will join together to sing the high-energy “Beware” which was inspired by a verse in Lewis Carroll’s nonsense poem “Jabberwocky.”
Admission is $10 at the door. Anyone 14 years and younger attends for free.
