‘Age friendly cities’ topic for symposium

“Age Friendly Cities and Rural Communities” will be the topic of a seniors symposium in Kamloops on June 13.

SymposiumOncore Central Services, formerly the Seniors Outreach Society and River City Seniors Society, and the City of Kamloops will host the one-day symposium at the Coast Hotel and Conference Centre on Rogers Way.

“Age Friendly has become a worldwide movement to create great places to grow up and grow old,” said Oncore executive director Suzan Goguen.

“As a designated Age Friendly City, Kamloops is making enormous strides at encouraging active aging by optimizing opportunities for health, participation and security.”

She said seniors, family members, caregivers, service providers, advocates and community stakeholders are invited to attend the symposium.

Isobel Mackenzie, the new B.C. seniors advocate, will be a guest at the event.

Registration deadline is June 2. To register, contact the City at 250-828-3500 and quote program #228182. The fee is $10.
