Suspect caught after chase up Coquihalla

NEWS/ POLICE — A suspect is in custody after the driver of a stolen pickup truck led police on a Chase from Merritt toward Kamloops on the Coquihalla overnight.

RCMPCpl. Wayne Chung reported that Kamloops RCMP were on the lookout in the early hours today for a pickup truck that had been involved in a police pursuit in Merrtt and was last reported heading north on the Coq. When they tried to stop the truck the driver ignored their emergency lights and kept going.

It was disabled with a tire deflation device. The driver then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot but was caught with the help of the Police Dog Service.

Charges of flight from police, dangerous driving, and possession of stolen property are pending against a 29-year-old male suspect from Penticton.
