‘Career makeover’ winner goes to college
NEWS — Kevin Boys had severe dyslexia growing up. Early on, he thought he was a slow learner but even as the years passed he never caught on to reading.
Now 18, Boys moved to Clinton five years ago, where he’s established tight-knit friendships and has thrived in 4-H and cadets. Most recently he’s involved with search and rescue.
Living in Clinton has developed his appreciation for nature and the environment, which is why Boys is now aspiring to become a conservation officer — a vocation that has captured his aspirations since a Grade 6 career fair.
That’s where the Extreme Career Makeover at Lethbridge College scholarship enters the picture.
Boys created a video with the help of Kamloops-based Mastermind Studios to make his pitch for votes.
Being the recipient of the makeover would allow him to be “the face of the college,” as Boys puts it. It would show that you can overcome a disability and follow your dreams.
The Alberta college announced this week that Boys was one of two makeover winners. He gets two years of tuition, books and accommodation paid for by the college.
In return, he will share his experience in blogs, videos and social media updates. Check out Boys’s story at www.lethbridgecollege.ca/extreme-career-makeover.
