Boyce pledges lively Ajax talk on Sunday
NEWS — Richard Boyce is going to do his best to make sure nobody falls asleep Sunday afternoon when he’s talking and it’s a pretty sure bet he’ll succeed.
Boyce, president of the United Steelworkers local 7619 at Highland Valley Copper, will speak Sunday, April 13 at 2 p.m. in the Parkside Lounge atthe Interior Savings Centre.
He’ll be talking about the proposed Ajax mine, a project he once strongly supported but now opposes.
Boyce has 40 years’ experience working in the mining industry, and more than 36 years as an activist in the Steelworkers’ Union.
“I’m a miner,” states Boyce. “There are pros and cons to having nearby mining activity. I want to talk to Kamloops about the reality of having mining activity in the vicinity.”
Boyce’s talk is entitled “The Reality of Having a Mine on Our Doorstep.”
“I will do my best to ensure no one falls asleep,” quipped the outspoken Boyce.
Parking is free on the street during the talk, and available for a small fee in marked lots by the Interior Savings Centre.
The event is sponsored by the TRU Faculty Association Executive, TRU Faculty Association Human Rights Committee, Kamloops Physicians for a Healthy Environment, and the TRU Eco Club.
Dr. Jill Calder, co-founder of the Kamloops Physicians for a Health Environment, will moderate.
There is no admission charge.
