ARTS/ ENTERTAINMENT — The Kamloops Film society’s next showing runs tomorrow, Thursday at the Paramount Theatre, 7 p.m.

Like Father, Like Son is described as a “taut drama” that focuses on a couple faced with a traumatic piece of news: the hospital where their six-year-old son was born phones to tell them they had been given the wrong baby.

Ryota, a hard-working successful businessman and his wife, Midori, must come to terms with the fact that Keita is not “their” child after all.

While Midori remains completely devoted to Keita after hearing this devastating news, Ryota begins to question himself, whether he has been a real father all along.

Communicating with the family that has raised their ‘natural’ son, Ryota is forced to make a life-changing decision: to choose between ‘nature’ and ‘nurture.’

Koreeda, an acclaimed feature and documentary director, is known for documentary fictive narratives dealing with memory and loss. This 2014 film has been described as “well-acted and quietly powerful without settling for easy solutions to its unique dilemma.”

As usual, advance tickets are available at both Moviemart (444 St. Paul Street) and at the Paramount Theatre, and at the door on the evening of the screening.
