Shana: The Wolf’s Music, filmed mostly in TNRD, to premiere in Vancouver on Sunday

NEWS — A movie shot mostly in the Thompson-Nicola Regional District will premiere at the Reel 2 Real Film Festival in Vancouver on Sunday, April 6.

The screening of Shana: The Wolf’s Music, will be sponsored by the Thompson-Nicola Film Commission and will feature appearances by actors from Merritt and the Lower Nicola who appear in the film.

Shana: The Wolf’s Music focuses on a 12-year-old girl and talented musician who lives with her father on the Lower Nicola Indian Reserve near Merritt. After the death of her mother, Shana retreats into her own world and stops playing her beloved violin.

Shana’s life takes a decisive turn when her new teacher discovers her musical talent and registers her in a Vancouver music school.

On April 6 at noon, before the screening, Aboriginal elders will bless the presentation. Then, Lower Nicola Indian Band members and cast members Sunshine O’Donovan and Delilah Dick, as well as Swiss director Nino Jacusso, will introduce the film.

After the screening, the three will take part in a question-and-answer session.

Vancouver-based producers Cynde Harmon of Really Real Films and Henrik Meyer of Red Cedar Films will also attend. Harmon is familiar with the TNRD, having also produced Afghan Nights, which was directed by her husband Alan Harmon, and lensed in Kamloops, Ashcroft and Cache Creek.

Henrik Meyer produced the German-Canadian co-production TV mini-series Miss Texas in Ashcroft and Spences Bridge, as well as the German language film Gold, which was shot in Kamloops, Cache Creek and the Big Bar area west of Clinton.
