‘Who pays for climate change?’ the subject of talk Thurs. by former White House economist
NEWS — Who pays for climate change?
That’s the question that will be asked at a talk at Thompson Rivers University on Thursday at 4 p.m. Dr. Jason Shogren of the University of Wyoming will present the talk in Room S203 in the Science and Health Sciences building.
Shogren, who thinks of climate policy as “planet insurance,” will discuss the underlying economic principles that help drive our individual and collective decisions on energy supply and demand.
He will explore the past, present and future of climate change economics and policy, and will examine the benefits, costs and risks of action and inaction in a carbon-constrained world.
Shogren was the lead author of the Third Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report, which was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.
He also served as a senior economist in the White House, focusing on climate change during the Kyoto Protocol.
There is no admission charge and the public is welcome to attend.
