Hours cut at another rural post office

NEWS — Another rural post office faces cutbacks in service.

Canada Post logoAs of April 13, the Quilchena post office will not longer offer Saturday retail service. Hours on Mondays through Thursdays will be from 10 till 2, and on Fridays from 1 to 5 p.m.

A letter from Karen Plessis, local area manager for Canada Post in the Thompson-Nicola-Fraser Canyon, informs the Thompson Nicola Regional District that a decline in letter volumes is to blame for the changes, but says there will be no change to the range of services offered during the hours the post office is open.

Last week, hours were cut at the Pinantan Lake and Little Fort post offices, and Heffley Creek, Savona and McLure are under review.

The cutbacks are part of a Canada Post strategy to cut costs due to what it says are mounting budget deficits.
