ARTS/ ENTERTAINMENT — The Kamloops Film Society kicks off its Spring Film Series this week with The Selfish Giant, a contemporary fable by British director Clio Barnard.

The film follows the exploits of 13-year-old Arbor (Conner Chapman) and his best friend, Swifty (Shaun Thomas).

Excluded from school and outsiders in their own neighbourhood, they team up with a local scrap dealer and wander their town collecting metal as a way to make money.

The film has been described as “a story of dependence, damage and desperation.” It shows Thursday, March 27 at 7 p.m. at the Paramount Theatre, 503 Victoria St.

Tickets are $8 at the door or in advance from MovieMart, 444 St. Paul St. A $2 annual membership card is required, which can also be purchased at MovieMart.
