Unstoppable B.C. rocks to another Brier win

SPORTS — A seemingly unstoppable B.C. rolled to another comfortable win in this morning’s Brier draw at Interior Savings Centre, this time over Newfoundland-Labrador’s Brad Gushue.

BriarJohn Morris, with Jim Cotter throwing fourth stones, was never in trouble during the game and stayed in control over the final ends. A big cross-house double from Cotter in the seventh kept Gushue to a single when it looked like Gushue might craft a deuce.

Heading into the eighth, B.C. was up 4-2 and Gushue had to pull off a clutch double of his own to keep Cotter to a single. Newfoundland got one back in the ninth but Morris and Cotter simply kept the house clean in the 10th and the skips didn’t have to throw their final stones.

With B.C. now firmly atop the standings with seven wins and a loss, Gushue is on the verge of elimination at three wins and five losses.

B.C. will be on the ice against Ontario — still in contention for a playoff spot —  this afternoon.
