Special Olympics teams up with local Safeway

LETTER — I sincerely appreciated you posting Gregg’s story about the 2015 Special Olympics B.C. Winter Games in Kamloops! We are truly grateful for that presence on your site, and the call to the great Kamloops volunteer community. Thank you!

SpecialI wanted to also let you know that we’ve been working with Safeway in Kamloops to launch Safeway’s 2014 campaign to raise funds and awareness for people with intellectual disabilities.

From March 7 to 21, Special Olympics Canada is partnering with Safeway stores in Western Canada with the hope of bringing greater awareness about Special Olympics and generating financial support for our programs.

We want to build awareness of this important campaign and have teamed up with Store Manager Brendan Martin and his team at the Kamloops Safeway on Fortune Drive to host a local launch. We would like to invite you to join us on Friday (March 7) at 3 p.m. to meet and photograph local athletes from several sports (including curling, floor hockey, snowshoeing, basketball, and bowling) who will join Safeway staff for a photo and fun opportunity to help kick off the campaign.

We are especially excited for the campaign here in Kamloops because of the 2015 SOBC Winter Games. Excitement is building fast among our athletes and volunteers all over the province and right here in your community.

Safeway’s annual campaign provides significant support for Special Olympics athletes and programs all over the province. Last year the Fortune Drive Safeway store alone raised $3,719 for Special Olympics, and $419,595 was raised for Special Olympics across Western Canada.

From March 7 to 21, Safeway customers are invited to donate $2 to the campaign and in return they will receive five AirMiles Reward Miles. One hundred per cent of all funds raised go directly to support our programs and help local families.
