Coq to be closed again Tuesday for more avalanche control

NEWS — The Coquihalla Highway will be closed 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25 for more helicopter avalanche control work.

CoqsignThe Ministry of Transportation said that over the past three days, high winds and new snow have continued to fill the avalanche paths. “This planned closure will allow crews to conduct helicopter avalanche control to reduce the snowpack in avalanche paths and then clean up any deposits that reach the highway.”

Detours are available via Highway 1 at Kamloops, Highway 1 or 3 at Hope and Highway 8 and Highway 1 at Merritt.

The schedule of the control work may be revised based on weather conditions. Motorists are advised to check DriveBC  drivebc.ca for up-to-date highway information.
