Council making plans for roundtable public budget session

NEWS — The public’s last chance for input on the 2014 City budget comes up next week. The session will be held Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Interior Savings Centre from 7 to 10 p.m..

ISCFocus of the meeting will be the so-called “wish list,” items added to the budget but not essential to core services for the coming year. Among them are an additional RCMP member, increased transit hours and a developmental study for the proposed performing arts centre.

After an overview by the City’s financ3 deprtment, residents will have a chance to discuss the list with councilors and senior staff in a roundtable format. The list of requests, all 81 pages of them,  is available at the City’s website.

Feedback will be recorded and considered when council makes its final decisions on the 2014 budget and tax rate.

Residents can follow along and contribute to the conversation on Twitter using #kamloopsbudget. Details on the meeting format are also on the City’s website.
