Online survey gathers info on proposed car sharing program

NEWS — A  Kamloops group is working toward getting a car share program in the city. Coun. Arjun Singh said Friday the concept was raised during the Kamloops Idea Festival he hosted last year.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASingh said an online survey has been created to gather input on the idea. “The info collected will really help the group understand if and how car sharing might work in Kamloops,” he said.

A non-profit co-op would own and insure the vehicles, and manage the schedule for their use. Co-op members would reserve vehicles online.

The Kamloops Car Sharing Survey asks for input on what modes of transportation people use for shopping, entertainment, errands and appointments, whether they own, rent or lease a vehicle.

It also asks how many hours per week people spend in their vehicles, what they feel a reasonable fee for use of a shared vehicle would be, and the reasons they might be interested in car or truck sharing, such as saving money, convenience, or environment.

The survey will be posted until Feb. 24.
