NEWS — Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and so is the deadline for feedback to the City in round one of public consultation on the Columbia Street reconstruction project.

While the engagement process isn’t finished, anyone who intends to mail in a comment sheet picked up at last week’s open house at the Sandman Inn is supposed to send it before Friday.

The sheet asks people what they like best and least about the proposed reconstruction, which is slated for 2015. The final plan will be presented at a public open house this fall.

The project includes widening of the street between Third Avenue and Sixth Avenue to provide left-turn lanes and new traffic signals. It includes closure of the left-turn from Columbia onto Second Avenue.

It will also involve road repairs, curbs, paving, sidewalks, bus-stop enhancements and medians. Rehab of Columbia from Sixth to 12th Avenues is also being studied.
