The speech, read by Lt.-Gov. Judith Guichon, praised the positive economic impact of resource industries, saying forestry and mining alone employ more than 86,000 British Columbians and generate billions in activity.

“Under the B.C. Jobs Plan, this government is committed to enabling the opening of another six mines, and expanding nine more by 2015,” the speech said.

“Two new mines are open, including the first metals mine in a decade. Major expansions have been approved for another six.”

No specific mines were mentioned, including the Ajax proposal, which is in the early stages of application for an environmental permit and is subject to a joint federal-provincial review.

Premier Christy Clark has mentioned several times in past speeches that the Liberals want to see more mining development.
