Social media case involving students still under investigation

NEWS — RCMP and school district officials continue to investigate the alleged exchange of “inappropriate material” on social media by a number of under-18 students.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASchool superintendent Terry Sullivan told Kamloops-Thompson trustees tonight (Monday) that police and school officials will continue to co-operate in the investigation that began two weeks ago.

About 30 female students from a half dozen secondary schools have been interviewed by police, and three male students are under investigation.

In response to the situation, the school district and police brought in social media expert Jesse Miller, who spoke to almost 500 parents at a public meeting a week ago and also spoke to students at some schools.

Sullivan said Miller will return in March to talk to students at more of the schools about the privacy risks involved in using social media.
