NEWS — Just five months after getting back to full strength at the top, the Kamloops RCMP detachment is looking for a new operations commander.

Insp. Jennie Latham has accepted a transfer to Ottawa and is expected to make the move in March.

She arrived in Kamloops in July 2011 to backfill the vacancy left when Insp. Yves Lacasse was promoted to superintendent.

When Lacasse left the force to take a job with Ajax, the City and RCMP went on a hunt for a replacement. During that time, Latham took over command of the detachment.

Five months ago, Supt. Brad Mueller came on board. He made the announcement Monday that Latham is leaving, and gave her high praise for the work she’s done during her time here.

Latham spent 18 years as a police officer in B.C. before moving to Sherwood Park, near Edmonton, and had been an inspector for four years before taking the post in Kamloops.

Mueller said he expects the position will be vacant for a short time before Latham’s replacement is hired.
