Meeting to tell parents about impact of social media on kids
NEWS — South Kamloops Secondary School gym is the setting tonight for a presentation aimed at telling parents about new social media technology and how to keep their kids safe.
Jessie Miller of the Vancouver firm Mediated Reality will be the guest speaker.
“As social media has embedded into our society, the trends and trials of online sharing have entered many different learning environments causing positivity for some and chaos for others,” says the Mediated Reality website.
The meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the gym and seating is on a first come basis. RCMP and the Kamloops-Thompson school district are hosting the meeting.
RCMP and the school district have recently expressed concerns about” the alleged exchange of inappropriate material.”
In an earlier statement, RCMP said, “The message to parents remains the same that you need to be engaged with your children’s online and social media activities. This can lead to tough or uncomfortable conversations, but these conversations are critical.”
