Red Bridge will be closed for maintenance this weekend.

NEWS — Motorists crossing between the city and Mount Paul Industrial Park will have to take a detour this weekend.

The Red Bridge will be closed for maintenance again, this time on Saturday and Sunday between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Alternative crossings are the Yellowhead Bridge on Highway 5 or via the Overlanders and Halston Bridges.

The bridge was also briefly closed last October for inspection. As it ages, the bridge is frequently inspected and maintained to ensure its structural integrity and keep its heritage features.

The wooden trestle bridge was built in 1936. It received major maintenance costing $822,000 in 2004 to extend its lifespan.
