NEWS — Kamloops will host another major track and field event this year, this time for under-23 North American athletes.

The 2014 North American Central Caribbean (NACAC) track and field games are set for Aug. 8-10. NACAC president Victor Lopez and other members of the event review committee, in town to look at the city and officially sign the host agreement, reviewed the event with City council at its meeting today.

Between 175 and a 500 athletes and their support teams from 32 countries are expected to attend.

Bob Cowden and Judy Armstrong appeared on behalf of the Kamloops Track and Field Club, which will co-host the event along with the City, to introduce the visitors.

“It helps us to step forward hosting high quality track and field championships,” Cowden said.

Cowden said the meet will provide a high level of competition. “We will see records broken at Hillside Stadium that will definitely set the stage for the future.”

Mayor Peter Milobar and Lopez signed the official agreement during the meeting.

Milobar noted the track and field club was instrumental in creating the Tournament Capital program.
