What would Dr. Scherf think of asset-baring prank?

You’ve got to believe that Kathleen Scherf is having a chuckle today over the prank pulled by MP Cathy McLeod’s son James at yesterday’s convocation at TRU.

The young McLeod, when called upon to receive his nursing certificate, turned around and mooned the audience. One report says the mooning lasted for a good 10 seconds. Thankfully, a closed-circuit feed to Ottawa, where his mother was watching, chose to go on the fritz at that moment, sparing the MP.

James’ mother is not, as she put it, “amused,” but dad Gord sees it as harmless.

Reports indicate interim TRU president Roger Barnsley kept a poker face during the incident, but one must wonder how former president Scherf, known for her sense of humour, would have reacted. It’s just possible she would have at least laughed out loud and even cheered him on.

Meanwhile, tongues will be wagging about the embarrassment of it all for the Member of Parliament. I don’t think she has much to worry about, and neither does James. Mooning a normally dignified and stately occasion may not have been in the best of taste, but it’s not exactly a constituency matter. It’s something for Cathy McLeod the mother, not Cathy McLeod the MP, to deal with.
