Kamloops would get five MLAs under STV
I had coffee earlier this week with Arjun Singh, Ray Jones and Less Goddard of Fair Voting B.C. I’d asked for the meeting in order to clarify a few things about the BC-STV, or Single Transferrable Vote.
Arjun is president of the organization, which supports a change to BC-STV from First Past the Post, Les is a local member, and Ray was on the Citizens Assembly that came up with the recommendation to the provincial government a few years ago.
The Kamloops Chamber of Commerce is working on a public forum on the issue that would feature both sides, and The Daily News is looking for ways to make sure people are informed during the upcoming campaign about how the STV system works.
I especially want to draw your attention to Arjun’s recent correction to my STV report, published here earlier, which said the Kamloops riding would have four MLAs under STV. That was true at one time, and that was the information provided to me when I was putting together the STV piece, but the numbers have been rejigged and it’s now the case that Kamloops would have five MLAs under STV.
