TRAFFIC – Stage Two of Lansdowne project on schedule for late June
Beginning June 28, 2024, traffic impacts from stage one of the City Centre Sanitary Upgrades Project will return to normal operations. Stage two of the project will move eastward, affecting traffic on Lansdowne Street from 2nd Avenue to 4th Avenue.
The City said today that during stage two, the Lansdowne corridor between 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue will include trench work on the south side of the street and only one lane of through traffic on the north side of the street.
From 3rd Avenue to 4th Avenue, the trench work will switch to the north side of Lansdowne Street, and traffic will flow on the south side of the street. There will also be temporary impacts at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and Lansdowne Street in early July, followed by temporary impacts at the intersection of 3rd Avenue at Lansdowne Street in early August.
In conjunction with the onset of stage two, crews will be restoring Lansdowne Street between 1st Avenue and 2nd Avenue and Lorne Street between Uji Way and Lansdowne Street. The 2nd Avenue and Seymour Street detour will also be removed, and traffic patterns along that corridor will return to normal effective June 28.
Throughout stage two and the entirety of the City Centre Sanitary Upgrades Project, businesses along Lansdowne Street will remain open and accessible. Pedestrians will have access through the work zone but may be limited to one side of the street only.
“This critical sanitary sewer upgrade will add capacity to accommodate the rapid residential and commercial growth within the downtown core,” said Matt Kachel, the City’s capital projects manager.
“Given the location and scope of this vital infrastructure work, we understand how highly impactful this project is to businesses, residents, and commuters throughout the downtown core.
“We are happy to report that the project is currently on schedule due, in part, to the co-operation of residents. We will continue to do our utmost to ensure open, transparent, and timely communication for businesses and the public, and our project team continues to monitor traffic management plans and flow.”
A reminder that all heavy trucks must continue to use alternate routes for the duration of the project.
Regular traffic updates, including anticipated delays, lane closures, and alternate routes, will be shared through the City Centre Sanitary Upgrades Project page, Kamloops.ca/Kammute, social media, and road signage. For transit impacts and updated route information, visit BCTransit.com/Kamloops.
Why wasn’t this obviously major undertaking not done when they had West Victoria torn up two and half years ago?
